How long will it take to port my application to the new v15 API? |

Without knowing the complexity of your application, we cannot give you a specific time amount. We can however say that our expectation is that the mechanical porting of a medium complexity application (without using new functionality) can be done in a couple of days. To help assist you in making a smooth transition to v15, our engineers have created a comprehensive porting guide. Additionally, support engineers will be ready to assist customers with active technical support contracts.

What is the long-term benefit of migrating to the new API? |

The benefits are significant. First of all, a 93% reduction in development time over v12. For example, one engineer not familiar with either v12 or v15 created a sample application (load image, recognize, save to text file) in 3 ½ hours with v12 and in ¼ hour with v15. Additional, this new simpler API will give you easy access to all the recognition technologies included in OmniPage Capture SDK 15, and will allow you to take full advantage of the new Workflow Controls and Automated Form Template Generation feature that utilizes our own Logical Form Recognition.

What type of speed increase will can I expect if I am running in a dual-core or hyper thread processor environment? |

While you should definitely see speed increases, the exact amount will depend on several factors. Our testing indicates speed increases of 5-34%. The lower end tends to be achieved when running in single page mode while the greater speed increases are generally seen in multi-page mode.

I’ve incorporated workflow controls into my customer’s application. Are there any system requirements for them to be able run the application? |

Yes, In order to create applications that include the Workflow Assistant, developers must have the Visual Toolbox installed on their machine. End users who want to use the Workflow Assistant to create graphical step-by-step Workflow need to have the Visual Toolbox runtime installed.

Yes, end-users can save Workflow scenarios to a Workflow file. They (Workflow files) can also be created and saved using OmniPage 15.

My product has its own user interface. Will I still benefit from the new Workflow Controls? |

Yes, potentially. Using the Workflow controls can result in an application that is easier to use and requires less work to implement. The reason being, that the workflow file contains parameters and settings that would otherwise need to be created through coding. Maintaining a workflow file is also easier than altering source code and creating new binaries. Additionally, the Workflow files are processed faster on a dual core/hyper thread system than a program with several separate API calls.

What types of PDF enhancements are included in OmniPage Capture SDK 15? |

Version 15 includes support for generating Multi-Raster Compressed (MRC) files. This technology breaks a PDF file into layers and applies different compression algorithims to each layer. The end result is a higher quality PDF at a significantly smaller – potentially 80% or more, file size than without MRC applied to the PDF. Additionally, version 15 generates PDF/A tagged files. PDF/A is the new international standard for long-term electronic archiving. OmniPage Capture SDK 15 also includes the PDF functionality from previous versions, including the ability to read, convert and export all types of PDF files, and create searchable PDFs for archiving.
